Steph's Glass is Half Full

Optimistic (and often pessimistic) raves and rants about the many things that can go wrong with an old house, cats who leave me hairballs each day, a job I love but get burned out with and my wonderful husband who I at times, want to hiss at. Also included are my yays and nays about my travels into the world when performing necessary tasks such as grocery shopping, being thrown together with complete strangers, thrown together with strangers and their strangeness.

DUH Mabeline and Dora

Friday Dora told me she might have worked more hours than was scheduled and might receive overtime on her next paycheck. She thought overtime was paid after 32 hours. I reminded her and Mabeline both that overtime was anything over 40 hours. They want to trade work days this week so Mabeline can have Saturday off. (Yet another weekend day she wants off, not good when she was hired to cover the weekend shifts). Friday I specifically told both of them that trading days was fine as long as they receive prior approval from either the Office Manager or myself and as long as it did not cause overtime.

Saturday I look at the posted schedule and see that they did indeed trade days for the upcoming weeks. Done without prior approval and the change gives both of them overtime. I told Mabeline the schedule changes she and Dora made were canceled because of the overtime. She gave me major attitude with her huffing and puffing and "hmmphs", hooded eyes glaring at me.

After Mabeline's third third hmmph, I just said, "I'm sorry. I can't approve the schedule changes" while my mind was screaming, "Well excuse me little missy pants. Didn't I tell you no overtime? Don't cop attitude with me when you outright ignored what you were told not only by me but by the Office Manager. No overtime! What is so fuc*ing difficult to understand about that?" DUH!

Mabeline has been receiving intensive training and instruction on animal restraint and control, yet everyday she still loses control of a dog and it runs up front to the lobby area with Mabeline in pursuit saying, "Oh my, get back here".

The good side of all this is that I haven't yet pulled out all my hair.

On a happier note, sis-in-law Jayne has college graduation this upcoming Saturday. She endured the years required to become a nurse and did very well with her studies. She will be a nurse for humans, not animals...although some humans act like animals. Too bad she can't automatically call for a muzzle when the patient wants to bite.
