Steph's Glass is Half Full

Optimistic (and often pessimistic) raves and rants about the many things that can go wrong with an old house, cats who leave me hairballs each day, a job I love but get burned out with and my wonderful husband who I at times, want to hiss at. Also included are my yays and nays about my travels into the world when performing necessary tasks such as grocery shopping, being thrown together with complete strangers, thrown together with strangers and their strangeness.

Demoted from Sushi to Parsley

Today I went to my help my mom make sushi for my niece's wedding Saturday. Mom was just finishing with the makisushi rolls and they looked delicious. My job was to stuff the aburage pouches (fried tofu) with the sushi rice and make the pouches look nice.

The photo shows what the pouches should look like. After my first inari stuffing with holes poked in the pouch, mom gave me a tutoring lesson. My second attempt with the broken finger on the left hand that wouldn't do what I instructed it and a dislocated thumb on the right hand, the pouch was stuffed with clumps of rice rather than the smooth flow and there were several holes.

Mom fired me. I was no longer allowed to make sushi and was demoted to snipping parsley decorations of the numerous plates. Even with my not helping much, we both enjoyed our time together today.

I tried on the clothes that I'm wearing to wedding so mom could make any necessary alterations. Everything fit perfectly. NO, I'm not wearing a dress. I have very nice slacks and top. The last time I wore a dress was at my own wedding ten years ago. The time before that was at my brother's wedding, 1980 or so. Me in a dress? No.

I'm off to bed now to sleep in until 8AM and get up for a two hour vegitative state before I'm functional and then get ready for the wedding with family photos at noon. First time in years that I will wear makeup, bought all new stuff today; foundation, mascara, lipstick, blush, eyeliner, etc. Do I even remember how to apply it? Maybe I should set my alarm earlier.
