Steph's Glass is Half Full

Optimistic (and often pessimistic) raves and rants about the many things that can go wrong with an old house, cats who leave me hairballs each day, a job I love but get burned out with and my wonderful husband who I at times, want to hiss at. Also included are my yays and nays about my travels into the world when performing necessary tasks such as grocery shopping, being thrown together with complete strangers, thrown together with strangers and their strangeness.

Not Really a Day Off

Today was busy even though it was my day off. I felt like I had no time to rest.

First was the oil change scheduled for my car. The Element was 4000 miles overdue. Couldn't get it in to the dealer before today due the conflict between my work hours and their service dept. hours. 11AM appt. (yeah, I had to get up earlier than usual, ugh), but 45 minutes later I left with fresh oil, a full windshield wiper reservoir, a washed exterior and vacuumed interior, two bottles of water and a reminder to change the oil again in 3000 miles. For me, that is about five months from now. And the highlight was that everything today was free. The Honda dealer where we bought the Element (and the Toyota truck) provides the first oil change free. After that it is $37 and still includes the car wash and vacuum, the bottled water and the check of other car fluids.

My next stop was at the mall to meet my parents for lunch. We met at the mall because my sis-in-law works at the Hallmark store there and we wanted to say hello to her, but she was off with a bad cold. Rather than go anywhere else, we ate at the mall's food court. I had a Thai chicken noodle bowl, my first Thai food, not a good example since it was at a mall food court. How authentic could that actually be? It was okay although heavy on the cilantro. I ate half and brought the rest home which I will not eat. Not because it wasn't good, but I'm not a fan of most leftovers.

Then I made a trip to PetSmart for cases of canned food for the cats.

Whew, an hour at home where I spent part of it with the mama cat and her four kittens. And then off to the clinic to deliver Oliver and Miss Tina Parker back to their owner after a weekend of cat-sitting them.

And then time on the computer posting adoptable kittens on petfinder. It's difficult writing a bio for each kitty to keep it fresh and make it be welcoming and different than other rescues with the usual "hey, I need to be adopted" or "black cat, male, four months old ready for adoption". Writing postings for our kitties is really difficult and taxes my brain.

A day off? It sure didn't feel like it.

Tuesday I am working, my normal day off. And Kitty Haven is expecting the arrival of a five month old kitten from another Vet. clinic. He was thrown from a car and the clinic said he is blind. They also said he is retarded. What that means I have no idea. We will find out tomorrow when he arrives. They named him Ed, for special education. Kitty Haven has a problem with broken kittens...we can't say no even when we have only $100 in the bank account.
