Steph's Glass is Half Full

Optimistic (and often pessimistic) raves and rants about the many things that can go wrong with an old house, cats who leave me hairballs each day, a job I love but get burned out with and my wonderful husband who I at times, want to hiss at. Also included are my yays and nays about my travels into the world when performing necessary tasks such as grocery shopping, being thrown together with complete strangers, thrown together with strangers and their strangeness.

Cats in Heat

Spring is kitten season which means cats are ready to breed now. Get your kitties spayed and neutered to prevent litters of kittens. If you have a stray, please spay/neuter if possible to prevent kittens born in the outdoors and the mother worried about food.

What my rescue received the past few months because people did not spay/neuter:

Kittens from a park ranger. The mother and kittens were tied up in a plastic bag left at the water's edge waiting for the tide to come in to take them away for drowning. The Ranger kept the mother and we had space for the babies.

A litter of four 10 day old kittens dumped in a wrecking yard car. The employee due to crush the car heard their crying and had the heart to save them by bringing them to us. The babies were bottle fed, but suffered from health problems that we spent much money on trying to resolve.

Our rescue operates on very minimal funds, all money comes from donations and our adoption fee of $80 for a kitten. The adoption fee gives us a profit of $3 after the vet care and maintenance costs if the kitten is healthy and adopted right away.
Many kittens we receive need extensive medical intervention, such as RBK (Really Broken Kitten) who had a broken jaw and a very broken leg that couldn't be saved. He had surgery to wire his jaw and amputate his leg and spent weeks with a feeding tube in his stomach since he couldn't eat.

And this is RBK today, very healthy and running through his house on three legs.

We shout Woohoo if we have over $500 in the bank. Please, spay/neuter. Eliminate the need for rescue groups such as ours.
