Steph's Glass is Half Full

Optimistic (and often pessimistic) raves and rants about the many things that can go wrong with an old house, cats who leave me hairballs each day, a job I love but get burned out with and my wonderful husband who I at times, want to hiss at. Also included are my yays and nays about my travels into the world when performing necessary tasks such as grocery shopping, being thrown together with complete strangers, thrown together with strangers and their strangeness.

Fostering Kittens

This is "Dude", short for Deteronimus. He is fostering with us until adopted. Dude is a very busy cat who sticks his nose into everything we are doing. He is very loving with people and other cats but attacks dogs. Yep, attacks dogs. When he was fostering at the clinic he ran up to dogs and swatted at their faces.

It was actually hilarious when he charged a Great Dane weighing 130lbs. and swatted at her. The Dane cowered behind her owner.

So, Dude is fostering with us to keep him away from dogs.It would not be very professional to tell a client their dog has wounds because a cat attacked him.

We lost little Martha. She crashed and couldn't be revived. She died Friday. Martha is the baby on the left being scrunched by her brothers Rufus and Louden. We also lost Rufus (the center kitten), same as Martha...crashing and couldn't be revived.

Kitten crashing is when the kitten suddenly becomes lethargic. They can be fine one minute but then "crash" within seconds. It is most likely to happen when a kitten is weaned from bottle fed formula to canned and dry food. Sometimes a dose of dextrose can help revive them. Sometimes IV fluids are necessary. Neither worked for Rufus and Martha.

With Martha and Rufus being four months old and way past the weaning stage, the Dr. thinks it was a genital abnormality. They were always kind of sickly and didn't really thrive. Their brother Louden is doing great but we are keeping a close eye on him.
