Steph's Glass is Half Full

Optimistic (and often pessimistic) raves and rants about the many things that can go wrong with an old house, cats who leave me hairballs each day, a job I love but get burned out with and my wonderful husband who I at times, want to hiss at. Also included are my yays and nays about my travels into the world when performing necessary tasks such as grocery shopping, being thrown together with complete strangers, thrown together with strangers and their strangeness.

A woohoo of a day

Mabel turned in her two week notice at work. Woohoo! Of course that means I have to come up with a new Vet. Asst. schedule and will probably have to work those hours myself, but it also means peace and quiet at the clinic. No more hearing the constant yakking in Mabel's high pitched voice, no more hearing her freak out about "cooties", no more half hour updates about the scheduled appointments.

Ah, peace and quiet finally. Dogs barking and whining, cats meowing, phones ringing, but none of Mabel's endless chatter.

Mabel is a very nice person with a very big heart full of kindness, but she is a presence that makes your teeth hurt. Her voice is like fingernails screeching down a chalkboard and she never shuts up. Constant talking, on and on and on, talking about nothing, just talking. Many times I have wanted to scream, "Criminies, will you shut up??!!!"

Just two more weeks with Mabel. I can hang on that long without losing what sanity I have left. Since all the clinic staff feels the same way I do, maybe I'll plan a potluck for the day after Mabel leaves. Our celebration for the welcome silence. Or is that insensitive?

The broken front window at home was replaced today. Woohoo! I am currently sitting at my drafting table (what I use as my desk), looking out the new window onto the front porch. I saw the stray orange/white tomcat come for dinner, saw the possum arrive, saw the raccoon family stop in for food. I didn't have the usual handful of grapes on the porch for the raccoons, but they seemed content with eating the dry cat food.

I skipped TaiChi class tonight. Worked on the Asst. schedule all evening. I do not want the opening shift that Mabel had two days a week. Opening means I get up at 4AM each day. Not a joyful thought considering my brain and body won't let me fall asleep until after 2AM.

Other Woohoos...gas at the Arco station is down to $2.43 a gallon.

Captain Jack has been adopted.

Just another two weeks and then no more Mabel. What a relaxing thought. I feel the tension leaving my muscles already.
